The cafeteria is a really fun place because you get to sit with your friends and have some time to interact with them. In our cafeteria, every Friday, we get to watch a show during lunch. Also, every day the school provides a option to buy your lunch instead of bringing it from home. On Fridays, they provide pizza for students.
This is our school library. Its name is Lindsey Jones Library after a Cactus Ranch Elementary teacher who passed away of cancer. Our library has lots of books and even has a corner for storytime. It also has tables and couches to sit and read or study. The library is also where more of the competitions in our school are held.
The playgoud is a place where students can play and interact with each other. Our playground has a basketball court as well as soccer nets, a stage, and slides. There is also a very large field where children can run around and play together. The playground is my favorite place in school!
Every year, Cactus Ranch Elementary has a competition called House Olympics. When you first arrive at Cactus, you will get sorted into a house. In house olympics, all of the houses compete for a chance to win the trophy! In 2018, my house, yellow won!
The MLK Oratory is a chance for students to enhance their public speaking abilities. Every year, students are given a theme and their job is to write a speech about Martin Luther King Jr. based on that topic. The students will go through 2 rounds of competition in hopes of winning medals! In 2019, I won 3rd place!
The Amazing Shake is a international competition that allows students to practice their greetings and handshakes. Knowing how to greet someone properly is a skill that every student should know. The Amazing Shake can enhance students' learning abilities. In 2018, I won 1st place!
Cactus Ranch Elementary is still taking precautions and virtual classes. Even though the governor has anounced that no masks are required anymore, the school continues to keep masks manditory. They are also have their students constantly wash hands and sit apart from each other. At lunch, every student is placed one table away from another. The school also continues virtual classes for families who do not want to go to in-person school unless they really have to.
Cactus Ranch Elementary is trying really hard to keep their students safe but unfortunatly students at home just aren't getting the same kind of interaction as students on campus. The students who are on campus still get recess, lunch, and snack time to interact with their friends and even have a chance to make new ones. But the students who are at home don't get any of those. Some students rely on school to make new friends and if students don't get that time to talk to others, they may not EVER have a chance to make friends.
